Integrating Mind-Body Awareness with a Solution-Focused Approach to Treat Mental Health, Relational Issues, & Life Transitions

Women's Health

Millions of women suffer silently from female-centric health issues and often find it difficult to speak to anyone about such private and vulnerable matters. The impact of a woman’s complex physiology on her mental health is exponential and under-supported. Social conditioning, culture, family history, socioeconomic status, religion, and spirituality, are all vital elements to be explored and processed when working with women’s health issues. From Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), Cervical and Ovarian Cancer, Breast Cancer, Autoimmune Disease, Uterine Pathology, to issues with Sexual Interest, Infertility, Pregnancy, Postpartum Depression, Perimenopause, Postmenopause, Body Dysmorphia, Miscarriage, Abortion, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Sexual Assault and Rape Trauma, these experiences not only impact a woman’s body, but also disrupt a woman’s thoughts, feelings, mood, self-worth, and her behaviors towards self and others. I integrate a solution-focused approach that highlights education, emotional process and regulation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Mindfulness-based techniques, to decrease the suffering and move towards acceptance, mastery, and self-empowerment.

College & Post-College Career Transition

The transition from high school to college/university may be, without question, one of the most challenging times in a young adult's life. From being away for the first time from family and friends and creating new relationships, to the unfamiliarity of a new environment ... any of these circumstances can create anxiety, stress, and oftentimes difficulty with focus and motivation. Add to that, graduating from university and entering the "real world" of adulting can be equally, if not, more overwhelming. My role is to help identify any blocks causing issues with self-esteem, confidence, concentration and motivation, and to show up as an accountability partner for task completion. I collaborate with my clients to set intentions and measurable goals, utilizing cognitive & behavioral modalities, to effect the desired change.

Relationships

Exploring the relationship with yourself, with others, and with the outside world is central to the process of therapy. Many people seek therapy because of codependent relationships and/or frequent arguments with friends, loved ones, and business partners, causing a complete breakdown in communication. Infidelity may arise and disrupt intimate relationships, or there may be deeper personal issues that have never been addressed, creating internal and external conflict. My role is to assist you with resolving conflict in a healthy manner, in order to regain the respect, trust, and safety that all relationships need.

Chronic Physical Pain in Men

According to the Center for Disease Control, approximately 1 in 4 men in the United States suffer from various types of chronic physical pain. From sports injuries and nerve damage to muscular overuse and imbalance, chronic physical pain that is untreated often results in additional emotional suffering. The most common forms of chronic pain experienced by men are felt in the back, knee, hip, foot, and the GI track, such as IBS and Diverticulitis. Experiencing consistent physical pain directly impacts mental and emotional well-being and can lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression, and more frequently, thoughts of self-harm and suicide. Relationships can become challenged, employment may become threatened, contributing to even more discouragement and a loss in self-esteem and life purpose. My role in helping you heal from chronic pain starts with gaining your confidence and your commitment to an action plan that we outline together and work through incrementally. I integrate various modalities including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Acceptance Commitment Therapy to help my clients decrease the pain and live with more ease.

Addiction & Recovery

Recovering from addiction requires an understanding of the underlying issues that are driving you to seek comfort through an unhealthy substance or behavior. Historically, illicit drugs and alcohol were the common addictions treated in therapy. Today, common addictions include the compulsive use of social media and “doom scrolling,” overuse of cell phones, electronics, video-gaming, prescription medication, and marijuana. Gambling, shopping, sex, exercise, and food addictions, are just as prevalent. Equally important in recovery is gaining knowledge about your body’s chemistry and allowing yourself to identify, process, and manage your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I take a holistic approach in treating addiction, combining mindfulness techniques with traditional forms of therapy, to help you develop and strengthen healthier patterns of living.

Emotional & Mental Health

Stress, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, Grief/Loss, and Trauma, are among the many clinical concerns I have treated. I typically begin by helping you identify the symptoms you're experiencing, so we can explore ways to manage the symptoms, including implementing coping skills and therapeutic interventions to decrease the distressing emotions and increase your healthy functioning. I frequently consult with psychiatrists that can offer medical evaluations and medication management when necessary. I am collaborative and relational in my approach and work with you on achieving your desired goals.
